Hello all
Gav here from rural North Lincolnshire in the UK
Owned this 1964 404S TLF8 for 18 months (404.115 Hard Cab)
Generally, in very good order mechanically and minimal rust after searching for 5 years!
Ex German and then French Fire vehicle standard TLF8 I think
3 seat variant (1 in the rear)
First registered in Germany 8.9.64 but I don’t know where? Has the “Bonn” on the data card anything to do with original destination?
Was located in France close to St Tropez at a small commune of St. Croix from 1987 until 2021 as far as I can see being first registered in France 3.8.87
It was a “Front Line” vehicle there until 2009 when it was placed into reserve and then decommissioned in 2019, I have the French records for all this period but unfortunately no German paperwork at all
Was on French plate 874 TA 71
Now on UK plate XJT 378 B
Historic status here so no MOT or road TAX officially required
Currently undergoing rear body restoration and starting a weekend camper build with all the “Fire” equipment that was left in it now removed and sold or donated to other users around the world
The project has mainly been at stripping and planning and collecting parts stage for the last year whilst the below mentioned “P4” is finished after a 2 year plus full renovation and build from stock to my “dream” off road truck with Peugeot 2.5ltr diesel removed and MB M113 V8 5.0 installed and manual 6 speed and many upgrades and bespoke mods to my requirements
Personally, I have 36 years background working in the MB network specialising in Parts formally on Car, Van, Unimog, Truck and Bus and laterally on Van, Truck and Bus
My life passion and hobby are the Mercedes G Wagen and have owned around 20 over the last 25 years, 6 at one point in time and 3 currently along with the 404 which is my first Mog
Also have…
RHD 1990 460 series 230GE LWB Wagon ex Japan civilian in standard spec
LHD 1992 P4 series SWB Open ex French Army in bespoke V8 Off road build
LHD 1998 463 series G500 LWB Wagon ex Germany civilian in Expedition build
Looking forward to help and advice on all things 404 as I progress although I have been very fortunate to have made contact in the UK with a gentleman by the name of Manfred Princz, a German guy living in the UK for some time but with an extensive knowledge of early Mog’s and had worked for Mercedes as a Mog specialist all over the world including a long stint in Africa and now runs Westfield4x4 specialising in parts for 60’s / 70’s product
Go easy on me as I am very new to the Mog but highly experienced on the G!
