I just picked up a 1957 411.111. It's what we call here in the States a "20 footer" - it looks OK from 20 feet. It had a previous amateur restoration which was horribly done - there is tons of body filler and it looks like the probably put it on over the rust. The entire back wall was replaced with a piece of sheet metal, and the window opening was pop-riveted onto that. This replacement wall was pop-riveted all the way around to the B-pillars, and then it was all smoothed out with Bondo.
On the other hand, it's a Frogeye, which are very rare here.
I am slowly learning other things that are wrong with it that I didn't notice before, simply out of inexperience. For example, the driver-side crotch cooler has been covered up with Bondo as well! The fender seams have been filled in, too.
It runs, but driving is very difficult because the steering was both very loose and very tight - a lot of free play in the wheel, and then when it is out of the free-play zone, it binds. I've learned that the headlights are not correct.
If you see something else wrong, please speak up - I have a lot to learn and I won't be offended.
I realize the futility of finding a front bumper for sale, but if I can find a good set of measurements, I can fab one.
I want to restore it, but I need to finish my 1957 23-window first, so I am just going to catch up on the deferred maintenance and get it driveable for now.
